Description

The Gardener's House in the walled garden at Raby Park is an estate house built in the third quarter of the 18th century. It features pebbledash render with ashlar dressings, while the rear wings are constructed from pinkish sandstone rubble with quoins and brick. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and the house is designed in a Gothick style.

The building is one storey high with three bays and a two-bay extension on the left. The front has an embattled design with a gabled projecting center that includes a pointed-arched half-glazed door set within a wider pointed arch. There is a dentilled cornice string at the base of the gable peak, which is interrupted by a pointed-arched attic window. The outer bays have parapets that extend from the gable and contain a Y-traceried window on the right and a sash window with glazing bars on the left. The left extension features a similar sash window and an inserted door.

The roof is not visible from the front, but there is a banded ashlar chimney at the rear.
