Description

Farmbuildings to the north-west of Coatham Hall Farmhouse date from the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are constructed of coursed rubble with pantiled and corrugated asbestos roofs. The buildings form a U-plan layout, with a range extending beyond the right rear corner.

Describing the farmbuildings from the front left in a clockwise direction, there is a single-storey, three-bay former stable featuring a boarded door and flanking hit-and-miss windows, topped with a pantiled roof. Next is a tall single-storey, one-bay shed or loose-box that has a replaced boarded door, a hit-and-miss window, and a steeply-pitched pantiled roof. Following this is a two-storey, four-bay barn that includes a boarded door, two rows of flanking breathers, and a steeply-pitched asbestos roof.

There is also a tall single-storey barn set at right angles, which has altered openings and a pantiled roof. A long single-storey range, which has a dressed sandstone face to the yard extending to the right, features altered openings, breathers, and segmental brick arches (some of which are blocked), along with a combination of corrugated asbestos and pantiled roofing.

Additionally, there is a long single-storey former range of byres attached at right angles to the centre of the previous range, which also has altered openings and a steeply-pitched pantiled roof, complete with pigeon holes and ledges on the front gable.

A 20th-century weather-boarded shelter shed across the yard and later wooden farm buildings on the right and rear are not of special interest. These farmbuildings are included for their group value.
