Description
Coatham Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse likely dating from the early 17th century, with additions from the early 18th and 19th centuries. It features coursed rubble construction, with the early 18th-century section made of squared limestone. The roofs are covered with artificial slate and pantiles, and there are brick and stone chimney stacks.
The building has a linear plan, consisting of the original farmhouse, an early 18th-century farmhouse to the right, and a single-storey range from the 19th century to the left. The original two-storey house has a rough boulder plinth and flush quoins at the right junction. It has one window wide, with replaced casements in enlarged openings, and a roof with a raised left verge. A massive end chimney with rough offsets rises through the roof of the left range.
The taller two-storey, three-bay farmhouse on the right has a low plinth, a central replaced door with a blocked fanlight under a brick arch, replaced casements, and a boarded window above the door. Its steeply-pitched roof has slightly-swept eaves and raised verges, with rendered brick end stacks.
To the left of the central section is a single-storey, two-window L-plan range that has two late 20th-century windows and a steeply-pitched pantiled roof. At the rear of the early 18th-century farmhouse is a two-storey gabled stair wing, possibly from the 17th century, featuring a stepped external chimney on the rear gable and a steeply-pitched roof. There is a stair window with a radial head on the left return and a single-storey added outshut with a pent roof on the right return.
