Description

This is an early 18th-century house located on the south side of Allargate in Durham and Framwellgate. The exterior is constructed of English garden wall bond brick in a pattern of six courses to one, with a rendered plinth, painted ashlar dressings, and irregular sandstone quoins two-thirds of the way up the left corner. The roof is covered with Welsh slate.

The house is two storeys high with four windows. The front door, recessed in a moulded wooden surround with six beaded panels, is in the third bay and sits under a flat brick arch. The ground floor windows are sash windows with soldier-course lintels, with similar arches above them, except for the window in the first bay which has a plain wooden lintel. All the windows are 16-paned sashes, with some having been renewed, and feature projecting stone sills. The steeply-pitched roof is punctuated by end brick chimneys built with newer brick.

The interior includes some timber framing at the rear, with studs numbered I through XII.
