Description

This is a house dating from the 16th century, located on the north side of Allergate in Durham and Framwellgate. The exterior is painted incised stucco with ashlar dressings, and it has a Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys. The house is two storeys high, with two windows facing the front. A renewed door is positioned on the right-hand side, set within a 19th-century doorcase featuring a bracketed cornice. The windows are sash windows with plain stone sills set in wide boxes. The roof is a gambrel design, created by adding a higher roof section of a wider span and lower pitch to the original roof; the added section has slightly swept eaves and two ridge chimneys at each end of the original roof section, while the addition itself has one chimney on its left end.
