Description

The Watson tomb, located approximately 10 metres west of the Church of St. James, dates from around 1787 and commemorates John Watson of Coldsides. This headstone is made of sandstone and stands about 1.2 metres high. It features an elaborately shaped top with a tooled edge. The top panel displays a low-relief pair of cherub heads, each showing one pair of wings, above an eroded Hebrew inscription. Below this is a long, well-cut commemorative inscription that includes an inset 'hrou' in the word 'Through', suggesting a correction to the spelling.
