Description

The Raine tomb, located approximately 8 metres east of the Church of St. James, is a Grade II listed headstone dating from around 1789 for William Raine. It is made of sandstone and stands about 1.2 metres high, featuring a shaped top. The tomb showcases high-quality low-relief carving of three cherub heads, arranged asymmetrically, which are reminiscent of a similar group found in the former Church at Eggleston. The inscription is well-cut and commemorates William Raine and members of his family who died between 1789 and 1809.
