Description
Nos. 52 and 53 on South Street are two cottages built in the early 19th century. They are made of English bond brick with painted ashlar dressings and have a Welsh slate roof, with a plinth on the right side due to the slope of the ground. Each cottage has two storeys and two bays.
No. 52 features an elaborately-panelled door on the right, while No. 53 has a six-panelled door on the left, both located in the two central bays. These doors are topped with overlights that have glazing bars and are set beneath thick moulded stone hoods. The windows are fitted with wedge stone lintels and have projecting stone sills, with sashes that include glazing bars.
The roof of No. 52 is low-pitched and has a bargeboarded dormer with renewed glazing and slate-hung cheeks. In contrast, No. 53 has a steeper roof with two square-headed dormers, also featuring slate-hung cheeks. The central ridge chimney on No. 52 has square yellow pots, while No. 53 has a right ridge chimney with round yellow pots.
