Description
The Waite headstone, located 3 metres south of the Church of St. Romald, is a large sandstone memorial dating from 1808, commemorating Jerry Waite. The headstone features a tripartite curved top with a raised edge, adorned with a relief of three urns linked by garlands. The front of the headstone is inscribed with a tribute to Jerry Waite, the son of John and Nanny Waite, who passed away on January 30th, 1808, at the age of 4 years and 8 months. The reverse side bears an inscription reflecting on the brevity of life and the comfort of divine love, stating: "Though short my life and mournful was my death: grieve not that early I resigned my breath: The dying Child injoys his Makers love: And lives with Angels in The reilms above."
