Description

The Fountain Basin, located 200 metres north-west of Whispering Waters, is a mineral water fountain dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone and features a font-like circular basin with a curled-out rim at its centre, which stands in a larger, lower, and wider basin. Water flows from a central pipe and over channels on the rim of the basins, eventually discharging into the River Tees through a 1.5 metre long stone gutter.
