Description
The drinking fountain, dated 1858, is located in the south-west corner of the wall of a railway bridge in Ormskirk. It is made of sandstone and pink marble and is built into the parapet of the bridge. The fountain features a semi-circular marble bowl and a rectangular reredos panel, also dated 1858, although the spout furnishings are missing. Above the reredos is a sandstone plaque with worn lettering, and there is a pitched upstand with a trefoil cusp at the top and flat stone coping. This fountain is part of a group that includes the railway bridge itself, as well as Nos 11 and 13 diagonally opposite, and No. 36 on the opposite corner of Railway Road.
