Description
The railway bridge on Derby Street in Ormskirk was built around 1846-1848 for the Liverpool, Ormskirk and Preston Railway. It is a public road bridge that spans a cutting of the railway. The bridge is constructed from rock-faced sandstone, featuring red brick soffits. It has three segmental arches supported by rectangular piers, which are adorned with large impost bands that wrap around the piers. The arches are detailed with stepped rusticated voussoirs, a plain band, and a parapet with flat coping. The soffits are made of brick arranged in winding courses. This bridge is part of a group that includes a drinking fountain built into the south-west corner, as well as Nos 11, 13, and 36 nearby.
