Description
The stable block, located 15 metres north of The Garth, dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from limewashed sandstone rubble with dressed quoins and features a low-pitched roof covered in old pantiles, complemented by a double row of sandstone flags at the eaves. The building has a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay front with openings that include tooled-and-margined lintels and raised sills.
On the ground floor, there is a central boarded door, a four-pane casement window, and a blocked segmental carriage arch with an inserted window to the left. To the right, there are two four-pane casements and a Dutch door. The first floor features three hit-and-miss windows. The left gable stack has been rebuilt in brick. This stable block is included for its group value and is accompanied by attached ancillary buildings to the south and east, as well as a detached cart shed and stables to the west, which are not of special interest.
