Description

Startforth is a house dating from the early 18th century, with mid-19th century alterations to the rear. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a moderately-pitched roof that has been renewed with concrete tiles. There is a renewed brick stack on the left gable. The house is two storeys tall and has three bays. The central doorway is framed by a bolection-moulded surround with a broken pediment, and it contains a six-panel door that has two flush panels, two raised-and-fielded panels, and two glazed panels. The windows are 20th-century casements set in raised architraves. The eaves are plain and close, while the gable parapets have moulded coping and shaped kneelers. There is a building attached to the left that is not of special interest.
