Description
The Garth is a house dating from the 18th century, with significant alterations made in the mid-19th century and early 20th century. It is constructed from limewashed sandstone rubble, featuring dressed quoins, and has a pantiled roof with rebuilt brick end and ridge stacks.
The entrance front is two storeys high, with two wide bays and a right bay that was created by raising a single-storey extension in the mid-19th century. The entrance features a 19th-century six-panel door with a two-pane overlight at the junction. To the left, there are two early 20th-century bay windows, while to the right is a single 19th-century tripartite window with two-pane sashes. On the first floor, there are three similar tripartite windows with projecting sills and flush lintels. Above the door, there is a Yorkshire Insurance fire mark dated 1825. The roof is moderately pitched with slightly swept eaves.
To the right, there is a single-storey, two-bay addition that includes a 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash window, a boarded door, and a renewed pantiled roof. The rear of the main block features two round-arched sashes and a single-storey outshut.
