Description

The riding school, now used as a storage building, is located approximately 10 metres north of the stables and coach-house in Raby Park. It was likely built in the third quarter of the 18th century, possibly by the architect J. Carr. The structure is made of coarse pink sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings and features a concrete-tiled roof. It stands at one high storey and consists of 14 bays.

The south elevation includes projecting stone sills beneath 14 small glazed lights, which have segmental heads set in voussoirs, with a drip mould that runs continuously with the impost blocks. On the right return, there is a high wide segmental-headed arch with voussoirs. The rear of the building has 14 low boarded doors, framed in a manner similar to the south elevation. Inside, the sills of the north doors are approximately 0.8 metres above ground level.
