Description
The riding school, located to the north of the stable yard at Croxteth Park, dates from the early 19th century and has been partly rebuilt. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. The building is square and consists of a single storey, with loose boxes along the south side that open to the south. There is a central yard with rounded angles and open sides leading to a surrounding passage. On the north side, there is a railed-off section of the passage with a balcony behind it, which includes a fireplace; this area was used by Lord Sefton for inspecting horses and is also referred to as the cock pit. An extension to the east, known as the battery house, was added in 1905. The riding school is currently being converted into restaurant facilities for Croxteth Park, and round windows have been inserted into the north facade.
