Description

The Dairy, built between 1861 and 1870 by Eden Nesfield, is a Grade II* listed building located in Croxteth Park. It is constructed of brick with blue brick banding and yellow brick, topped with a tile roof. The building is square in shape, featuring short wings to the east and south. It has one storey with a layout of 2 x 2 bays, while the wings consist of 2 and 4 bays. The windows are designed with paired round-headed lights beneath roundels that have yellow brick heads. The south wing includes four small round-headed windows and two round-headed entrances at the rear. The east wing features an enclosed porch with a half-hipped gable and a round-headed entrance, which contains benches inside. There is also a rear porch at the angle of the building, with a hipped roof supported by a round stone column. The main part of the Dairy has a hipped roof with a square louvre topped by a lead spire and an iron finial, while the south wing has lateral stacks. Inside, the Dairy boasts tiled walls and stop-chamfered ceiling beams, which have been painted by A. Moore. This building is a charming and well-preserved example of an ornamental farm structure.
