Description

Laundry and Laundry Cottage date from 1864 to 1865 and were designed by E. Nesfield. The building is constructed of red brick with a slate roof, tile cresting, and large, ornamented brick chimneys arranged in clusters. It is one storey in height, with a two-story section at each end, and comprises six bays by two. The first two bays are recessed and lower than the rest of the building. The next three bays feature a gabled central bay with incised plaster decoration to the upper, timbered section. Windows are small-paned casements, with pointed arched entrances featuring a stone surround and a recessed door with elaborate hinges. The right return includes a rectangular bay window to the first bay, with deep, incised coving and irregular fenestration. The rear wing has a louvre. A four-light and cross window is also present, with leaded upper panes. This building represents an early example of the Domestic Revival style.
