Description

The Hunting Stables, likely built in the third quarter of the 18th century, are located next to a walled garden in Raby Park. The building features colourwashed render with painted ashlar dressings and a roof made of graduated Lakeland slates, topped with an ashlar chimney. It is designed in a U-plan and consists of one storey with three bays on each end and six bays in the long west range. The stables have boarded Dutch doors with 3-pane pivoting overlights set in plain stone surrounds at the ends of each range and two in the center of the west range. There are also 6-pane windows with similar stone surrounds, where the top half pivots open. The low-pitched hipped roof includes ridge ventilators with pointed-domed cowls, and there is a small square banded chimney at the rear of the north range.
