Description
Stable Court at Shepherd's Cottage in Smeaton dates from the late 18th century and has undergone later alterations. It features a U-shaped layout and currently functions as stables. The building is constructed of rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings. The northeast range has ashlar piers for the cartshed bays, while the southwest range includes brick infill that has been adapted to create stables. Tack rooms and additional stables are located in the remaining bays. Some windows display square leaded glazing patterns. The courtyard is enclosed to the southeast by a semi-circular coped screen wall. The roofs are covered with red pantiles, complemented by grey slate easing courses at the eaves.
