Grieves Cottage, Home Farm, Smeaton

Gardener's Cottage, located at Home Farm in Smeaton, dates from the later part of the 19th century. It is a single-storey and attic semi-detached pair of three-bay cottages. The cottages are built from square and snecked, stugged pink sandstone, featuring polished dressings and chamfered arrises around the openings.

On the southeast elevation, each cottage has a central gabled stone porch with a flush panelled door and a small-pane fanlight. There are windows in the flanking bays on the ground floor, with additional windows breaking the eaves in gabled dormerheads above.

The northeast elevation features a piend-roofed single-storey porch that projects from the rear of each cottage, with doorways located in the re-entrant angles. The end gables are blank.

The cottages have a six-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows, and the roofs are covered with purple slates. The buildings have ashlar coped skews with moulded skewputts, as well as coped end and mutual gable stacks. Decorative gutter fixtures are also retained.
