Description
No. 20 Old Elvet is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of mottled reddish brick with a stone basement and stone dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and features brick chimneys. The building has three storeys and a basement, with three windows across the front.
The basement has a rusticated plinth and a band at the ground floor level. There is a boarded basement door and barred sash windows. To the left, five steps with wrought iron handrails lead up to a door made of six reeded panels, which is topped by a patterned radial fanlight in a similar panelled reveal and reeded surround with decorative paterae. The sash windows have glazing bars, with the top floor windows being shorter and set under stone lintels that are cut as voussoirs. The building has chimneys at both ends. Plain wrought-iron area railings feature latticed piers with palmette finials.
