Description

North Lodge and the wall to Stanhope Castle, also known as Castle Lodge, were built in the early 19th century for Cuthbert Rippon. The lodge is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a plinth, while the rear half is made of sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. The roof is not visible. The wall is made of coursed rubble with an ashlar parapet.

The lodge is two storeys high and has four bays. The fourth bay features a shouldered surround to a patterned boarded door, with a small window to the right and a two-light window above. The three windows on the left are either shouldered or have round-headed lights, all located in a two-storey canted bay and consisting of two lights. A projecting parapet has a raised panel over the canted bay, which contains a coat of arms. There is also a rear ashlar corniced chimney.

The wall features a stepped battlemented parapet and a canted back that holds a segmental-headed arch, with a boarded door located to the right of the arch.
