Description

The structure consists of piers, a wall, railings, and a gate located south of Biddick Hall. The gate likely dates from the early 18th century, while the piers, wall, and railings are from the 19th century. The piers and wall are made of stone, and the gate and railings are wrought iron.

The wall is low and measures approximately 30 meters in length. The end piers feature chamfered edges and rounded tops. The tall central gate has double rails at the bottom and middle, which are filled with linked scrolls, and includes a shaped lock plate. The gate panels are adorned with delicate bifurcated scrolls, foliage, and flower motifs, along with a heart-shaped upper panel that partly encloses a later roundel featuring the monogram "D" for the Earl of Durham, topped with a scrolled crest. The hanging and meeting posts have spike finials and scrolled supports for the flanking lower railings. The railings also have double rails at the bottom and top, filled with scrollwork, and feature alternating panels with interlacing scrolls, as well as wavy and straight bars.
