Description
BOURNMOOR LAMBTON PARK NZ 35 SW 5/11 Inset Garden wall, gates and 2 statues, south-west of Biddick Hall GV II
Garden wall, 2 gates and 2 statues. Probably C17 statues; mid-late C18 wall and gates. Carved stone statues, hand-made brick wall and wrought-iron gates.
Tall wall with regularly-spaced flat buttresses runs west for c.65 metres; short return section at east end. Wall, mainly in English garden wall bond, is partly rebuilt at east end and has moulded stone coping; ball finial at west end. Round-arched doorway, to east of centre, has round-headed gate with close-set bars, rails and delicate scrolls around margins and centre. Similar square-headed gate with side panels attached to west end of wall. Return section has round-arched doorway flanked by 2 statues: one female; the other a man in armour slaying the legendary Lambton worm.
