Description

The building is a cottage, possibly a shieling, with an attached enclosure located on the south bank of Muggleswick Burn. It dates from the early 18th century and is constructed of sandstone rubble with some quoins and a stone-flagged roof. The cottage is one storey high and consists of two bays. There is an empty door on the right, which is set under a thin wooden lintel at the eaves, and an empty side window on the left beneath a rough stone lintel. The low-pitched roof features a truncated chimney at the left end.

Inside, there is a raised fire with a stone shelf beneath a stone lintel, and a drain leading out to the left of a short flanking wall. The interior also includes three small square recesses with stone sills, and the window has a thick wooden internal lintel. The sandstone rubble dry-walled enclosure to the left has walls on three sides, with the stream forming the fourth boundary.
