Description

The Muggleswick War Memorial is a First World War memorial with a Second World War addition, erected in 1919. It is located within the churchyard of All Saints, Muggleswick. The memorial is made of granite and features a Celtic cross with a tapering shaft, which stands on a tapered plinth, all resting on a square base surrounded by a kerbstone. The shaft and cross head are adorned with a relief design of Celtic interlace, and there is a central boss.

The front face of the plinth bears the inscription:

In grateful memory of/ Soldiers from this Parish/ who gave their lives for/ God, King and Country/ in the World War/ 1914-1918/ Erected by Parishioners and Friends.

Below this, the front face of the base states:

‘The memory of their sacrifice is dear to us’.

The names of seven men who died in the First World War and one soldier from the Second World War are inscribed on the right and left sides of the pedestal, listed by forename or initials followed by surname.
