Description

Brockma Gill East is a cottage dated 1718, originally divided into two. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and has two storeys. The front features two first floor windows, with a third window blocked. The cottage has crude quoins and a central doorway with a board door set in a stone surround that has interrupted jambs, splayed bases, and a flat rebate around the outside. The lintel above the door bears the inscription '1718 MC SC WR IR' along with a leaf-stop motif. To the right of the doorway is a blocked entrance with an ashlar sandstone surround. On the left side of the door, the windows on both floors are square openings fitted with 20th-century casements, and there is a blocked fire window beyond. The windows to the right of the door have remnants of flat-mullioned two-light surrounds. Above the doorway is a blocked three-light mullioned window with an altered lintel. Inside, there are two notable fireplaces: one on the left with corbelled supports for the lintel, and another on the right featuring an ogee sooker stone. A very tight staircase is located at the back left of the cottage. At the time of re-survey, the building was derelict. The cottage to the left is not of special interest.
