Description
The Meadows is a house located on Main Street in Croxdale and Hett, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of squared rubble laid in narrow courses, topped with a graduated stone-tiled roof and rendered chimney stacks. The building is two stories high and features three bays, with an additional bay added to the left. The house has squared quoins and a central door that is partly glazed, dating from around 1930, which is accompanied by a four-pane overlight. This door is flanked by replaced 16-pane sash windows, which have stuccoed wedge lintels and projecting stone sills. Above the door, there is a blank bay flanked by identical 16-pane sashes positioned just under the eaves. The left bay contains a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor, complete with a wedge lintel and projecting sill, and a replaced 16-pane sash above it. The roof over the three-bay section features stone-coped gables, shaped kneelers, and transverse end stacks, while the added bay has a hipped roof. The rear of the house may be slightly older and includes various altered openings, possibly including a fire window on the first floor to the right. Inside, there is a room that showcases good 1930s panelling and a brick fireplace.
