Description

CROXDALE AND HETT CROXDALE HALL NZ 2737 17/53 Garden wall and gates to south-east of Croxdale Hall II Wall and 2 gates, surrounding 3 sides of garden to south of south courtyard range (see Item 17/52). Probably mid C18 wall and east gate. Early C20 west gate. Squared sandstone rubble wall with dressed coping blocks. Iron gates. 1.0 to 1.5-metre high wall. 20-metre long west wall with rounded south-west corner. 40-metre long south wall is partly broken down at west. 30-metre long east wall runs north to join one-storey east range of courtyard buildings (see Item 17/51). Narrow gateways near centres of east and west walls. Small 2-leaf east gate has double rails and bars forming margin around 2 central panels. Delicate bifurcated scrollwork; centre of each large upper panel has small vase with single rose on thin stem. Similar scrolled crest. 2-leaf west gate has double rails and closely-paced bars. Each panel has a central roundel containing silhouette of a cockerel encircled by foliage decoration.
