Description
The Mill House is a former mill house, now a private residence, dating from around 1771 with a mid-19th century wing. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features Welsh slate roofs, along with dressed stone and brick chimney stacks. The main block is three stories high and has three bays, with flush squared quoins. The central entrance has a replaced four-panel door and a four-pane overlight above it. The windows are replaced four-pane sashes, with small square four-pane lights on the top floor, all set in openings that have alternating jambs, flush lintels, and projecting sills. The roof has a ridge stack on the right side.
On the left return, there is a taller, flat-coped gable end, which is the only remnant of the former paper mill that was rebuilt between 1771 and 1772. To the right, there is a two-story, gable-fronted wing of similar height, which features a projecting external chimney on its gable end. The right return has a two-bay full-height canted wood bay. The roof has bracketed eaves, coped gables, and shaped kneelers. Additionally, there is a two-story, two-bay outshut added under a pent roof at the rear of the main block. The roof of the main block includes four adzed A-frame trusses, crossed at the ridge and supporting three levels of purlins.
