Description
This building is a barn and an attached loosebox located to the west of Podgehole Mill, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, featuring quoins and a boulder plinth. The barn has a stone-flagged roof with a stone ridge, while later roofs are pantiled. The main structure has two storeys and three bays, with a left extension that has two lower storeys and two bays, plus a one-storey, two-bay projecting wing on the left.
The barn features thin wooden lintels above a central Dutch door and a partly-blocked loft door above, which has a 6-pane light inserted. There is a rough stone lintel over a boarded door on the right side of the extension, and a thin stone lintel over a boarded Dutch door in the front gable of the loosebox wing. Additionally, there is a single Dutch door in the inner return of the wing in the second bay, and two vent slits on the first floor of the barn extension. The rear elevation includes side stone steps leading to a central boarded Dutch door on the first floor of the barn. Inside, the loosebox features massive principal beams with swept feet, which are pegged and halved at the apex. The interior of the barn has not been inspected.
