Description

Podge Hole Mill House and Storage Building is a late 18th-century mill and house located on Emms Hill Lane in South Bedburn. The structure is built from coursed sandstone rubble, featuring some quoins and ashlar dressings. The house has a stone-flagged roof, while the left extension has pantiles, and the mill has pantiles with stone flags at the eaves.

The building consists of a central one-storey, three-bay house, a two-storey, four-bay left extension, and a lower one-storey, two-bay mill set back to the right. There are steps leading up to the central partly-glazed door of the house, which is inserted under a wood lintel and flanked by late 19th-century sash windows, both featuring projecting stone sills. The right sash has a flat stone lintel. The two right bays of the house project and are accentuated with quoins.

To the right of the two-storey section, there is a boarded door under a stone lintel, and another similar door in the second bay. There is an empty loft opening at the first floor on the left and a horizontal sliding sash window in the third bay. The mill wheel housing to the right of the house has two high ashlar walls. The mill itself has two boarded doors under wood lintels and two very small square openings.

The house features a banded chimney at the right end and a central chimney on the two-storey section. Inside the mill, there is a pair of stones that were reset around 1940.
