NZ 1055 CONSETT FRONT STREET

(South side) Ebchester 17/57 Pound behind School House GV II Cattle pound. Probably C18. Rectangular enclosure formed by boundary wall on north, stone posts on east and south, and now without barrier on west towards School House. 3 tapered stone posts on east and 5 on south, with 3 square recesses for wooden rails on the sides; some have rounded tops. Sandstone rubble wall on north side about one metre high; posts about 12 cm. high. Historical note: the drove road passed near by and drovers penned their animals here overnight.
