Description
The Pound Behind School House is a cattle pound located on the south side of Front Street in Ebchester. It likely dates from the 18th century and is a rectangular enclosure formed by a boundary wall on the north side, with stone posts on the east and south sides. The west side, which faces the School House, currently has no barrier. There are three tapered stone posts on the east and five on the south, each featuring three square recesses for wooden rails, with some posts having rounded tops. The sandstone rubble wall on the north side stands about one metre high, while the posts are approximately 12 cm high. Historically, this site was significant as the drove road passed nearby, allowing drovers to pen their animals here overnight.
