Description
The knocking wall at High Sharnberry lead mine is a structure located on the ore-dressing floor of the mine, likely built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from ashlar blocks and features two large blocks that are approximately 0.2 metres high, 0.6 metres deep, and 0.5 metres wide, which form a shelf. There is a third block that has been dislodged and lies on the ground nearby. Below the front edge of the blocks, two wooden pegs support rubble packing stones. The shelf shows signs of wear just behind the front edge, indicating it was used for dressing ore with hammers. This structure is a rare example of an early ore-dressing floor.
