Description
The wall and culvert entrance located to the north of Newby House dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from squared stone with cut dressings, and the culvert arch features white brick voussoirs. The wall has a flat coping and gently slopes down towards each end. Near the center, there is a vent with grating that opens into the cellars of Newby House. In front of the main wall, there is a short detached wall with chamfered coping, which has a blocked round arch leading to the culvert that carries a stream, historically used to feed the pant on the village green. This structure is included for its group value.
