Description
This is a railway marker stone dating from around 1845, located about 530 metres south of the Weatherhill Engine. It is made of sandstone and stands about one metre high, featuring a round top and pecked sides. The letters "S&D/R" are inscribed in Roman capitals on the east face of the stone. This marker indicates the west edge of the railway incline that was first engineered by T.E. Harrison and R. Stephenson for the Stanhope and Tyne Railroad Company in 1832.
