Description
The Parkin tomb, located approximately 8 metres south of the Church of St. James, is a Grade II listed headstone commemorating Christopher Parkin, who died in 1807, along with family members from 1752 to 1820. The tomb features a sandstone ashlar slab that stands about 1.6 metres high, topped with a shaped design. The small pecked top panel displays two low-relief winged cherubs. A long inscription reads, "In Commemoration and Affection was Erected this Stone by Elizabeth Parkin the Disconsolate widow of the above Michael Parkin and Jane and Alice his two surviving daughters." The rear of the tomb is inscribed with "ALLAH KERIM" and "The Providence of GOD is great," along with further commemorations of family members.
