Description

The bridge over the East Looe River, built in 1853, replaced a narrow medieval bridge with 15 arches. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with granite dressings. The bridge features a straight design with seven bays of segmental arches spanning the river, a similar dry arch at the East Looe end, and a narrow round-arched curved pedestrian passage at the West Looe end. There are cutwaters on both the upstream and downstream sides for the tidal river. The segmental parapet copings have a quadrant-on-plan return to the terminal pier at the East Looe corner, while the ends are straight with similar piers. Additionally, there are six cast-iron lamp standards with turned bases, fluted shafts, and cross bars, with three lamp standards on each parapet. The bridge and lamp standards are included for their historical and group value.
