Description
The Dunston Coal Staithes, built in 1890 for the North Eastern Railway, are the last operating jetty staithes on the River Tyne. They extend over 1,700 feet and feature a braced timber construction. The structure includes three berths for ships on either side, as well as upper and lower decks with gantries at intervals. These staithes hold historic significance as a remnant of the trade that initially brought prosperity to Tyneside.
