Description
144 Commercial Street is an elaborate building designed in the Dutch Renaissance style, featuring three storeys plus an attic. It is constructed of red brick with bathstone dressings that are enhanced by decorative scrollwork, garlands, and brackets. The gable includes a segmental pediment that encloses a relief panel, and there is a prominent 5-light window where the central three lights are highlighted by end columns that support a cornice, all with sash glazing. Above a broad two-storey oriel window of three lights, the central lights are accentuated by curved pediments that enclose cartouches, also with sash glazing. The outer bays are adorned with turrets that rise from the first floor to the attic level, where they transition into polygonal louvres topped with copper domes. The ground floor features a modern shop front.
