Description

The building at 28 High Street is a two-storey building of probable 18th-century origin, though its precise date is unknown. It is rendered, likely over a rubble stone core, and has a Welsh slate roof with red ridge tiles. The building has an L-shaped plan, with three windows facing High Street and three facing White Horse Lane. A central doorway on the ground floor is topped by a shallow hood supported by ornate console brackets, sheltering a plank door with decorative planting detail. A later corner shop has been inserted, with a canted entrance framed by a plate glass window facing High Street and a three-light window with timber mullions facing White Horse Lane. The windows on the High Street are sash windows with marginal glazing, set within moulded architraves. The upper floor windows on White Horse Lane are similar, but the original sashes in the two left-hand windows have been replaced; the ground floor window is a modern three-light casement. The eaves overhang with paired brackets and the roof has a low pitch. The rear elevation is also rendered and features modern three-light casements within the gable end and the main range. The ground floor is now an open-plan shop.
