Description
Orchard Farmhouse is a single-storey and attic farmhouse dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the 18th century and a recent conversion of an attached outbuilding. The building features whitewashed rubble construction topped with a slate roof and has a rebuilt brick chimney stack on the left side. It has modern dormers and a modern window flanking the porch, which are out of character with the original design. A diamond mullioned window is preserved at the rear, and there is a rubble forecourt wall in front of the house. The converted barn to the right has a shallower roof pitch.
The interior was not accessible during the inspection in Autumn 1995, but it is noted to retain a post and panel partition that was reset in the 18th century, a Tudor doorhead, a newel stair, and an A-frame roof structure. Despite the recent alterations, the farmhouse is included for the interest of its remaining interior details.
