Description
Heol Gerrig Bridge, also known as Canal Bridge No 92, was built between 1809 and 1812 as part of the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal, which was initiated in 1792 to connect the upper Usk valley to the Monmouthshire Canal. The canal was significant for transporting goods such as iron, lime, and coal. This bridge is made of coursed rubble and spans the canal and the tow-path to the east. It features a segmental arch with a keystone, and the parapet curves at the downhill end. Heol Gerrig Bridge is notable as one of the few surviving early 19th-century bridges of the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal.
