Description
Richards Farm Bridge, also known as Canal Bridge No 93, was built between 1809 and 1812 as part of the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal, which was initiated in 1792 to connect the upper Usk valley to the Monmouthshire Canal. The bridge features a depressed arch made of roughly coursed rubble, typical of the standard design of the time, with voussoirs and swept out parapets that include end pilasters. The deck is cobbled, and the lane beyond the bridge is now disused. Notably, at the north-east corner, there is a lozenge-shaped 1920 Great Western Railway notice displaying weight restrictions, which is the only surviving example of its kind on this stretch of the canal. Additionally, a Great Western Railway boundary post remains downhill from the bridge. The bridge is listed for its historical significance as an early 19th-century canal bridge associated with the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal, along with a contemporary canal-side building.
