Description
Ochram Mill is a probably 18th century water-powered corn mill that underwent enlargement and alterations in the 19th century. It is part of the Llanover estate.
The exterior features two storeys of rendered and whitewashed rubble, topped with a slate roof and red brick chimney stacks. The mill house is located to the north and has mid-19th century sash windows with glazing bars towards the outer edges. The left side of the building is the older section, characterized by smaller, lower-set windows, while the right side, which includes the brick chimneys, was added in the 19th century. There is a lean-to porch with a boarded door, and to the left of this is a lean-to extension for the working part of the mill, which has boarded loft doors and a small-pane casement window on the inner side. The rear, which is also whitewashed rubble, features a large blank wall and a boarded door, likely leading to the stone floor, accessible from the bank above. An overshot water wheel is preserved in situ on the left-hand (south) gable end. The interior was not accessible during the inspection in October 1995.
Ochram Mill is listed for its special interest as a water-powered corn mill that retains its wheel and historic character.
