Description

No. 31 New Market Street is a townhouse dating from the Georgian period, with later alterations. It is rendered with a pebbledash finish and has a slate roof, featuring a tall stack, likely raised during construction. The building is two storeys high. The first floor has a four-window arrangement of 12-pane sash windows set within reveals. The ground floor features canted bays with larger-pane glazing, and bracketed cornices flank the central doorway. The doorway has an iron bracketed hood over a six-panelled door with glazed upper lights. To the right of the doorway is a former wide carriage entrance, now reduced in height. A low wall runs across the frontage, except on the right side, where it is replaced by iron railings with stanchions topped with urn finials and a central gate. The railings contribute to the group value of the area.
