Description
8 Priory Street is part of a terrace of three double-depth houses with shops, built in stucco and painted, featuring Welsh slate roofs. The design is almost symmetrical, with No. 8 showcasing a temple front supported by Ionic pilasters on the upper floors and topped with a pediment. Nos. 7 and 9 have one bay that is slightly set forward, while No. 9 includes an additional bay above the entry to the lane. The terrace stands three storeys high, with a total of nine windows on the first floor: No. 7 has two windows, No. 8 has three, and No. 9 has four. The ground floors vary in design; No. 7 features a doorcase with a broken pediment, a radiating fanlight, and a six-panel door, along with an early 20th-century double shopfront. No. 8 also has a fanlight and a panelled door, but with a plain arched doorway and a good early 19th-century shopfront. No. 9 displays a later 19th-century shopfront, and its set-forward bay extends to the ground, featuring a recessed arch with imposts and a window with a radiating head, alongside a plain arch leading to the lane. The first-floor windows are all six-over-six pane sashes with stone cills, while the second-floor windows are three-over-three pane. The building has a low-pitched roof with rendered stacks and plain rear elevations. The interior was not seen during the resurvey.
