Description

Nos. 7-9 Priory Street is a terrace of three double depth houses with shops, built with a stucco front and painted convex design, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The buildings have an almost balanced appearance; No. 8 features a temple front with Ionic pilasters on the upper floors and a pediment above, while Nos. 7 and 9 have one bay that is slightly set forward, with No. 9 having an additional bay above the entry to the lane. The terrace is three storeys high and has nine windows across the first floor: No. 7 has two windows, No. 8 has three, and No. 9 has four. The ground floors vary in design. No. 7 includes a doorcase with a broken pediment, a radiating fanlight, and a six-panel door, along with an early 20th-century double shopfront. No. 8 also has a fanlight and a panelled door, but features a plain arched doorway and a good early 19th-century shopfront. No. 9 has a later 19th-century shopfront, and its set-forward bay extends to the ground, featuring a recessed arch with imposts and a window with a radiating head; to the left is a plain arch leading to the lane. All first-floor windows are six over six pane sashes with stone cills, while the second-floor windows are three over three pane. The low-pitched roof has rendered stacks, and the rear elevations are plain. The interior has not been seen during the resurvey.
